Today we had to begin editing in the new computer. This was some what of a change even though we were using the same software, it was an updated version and was somewhat different then the version I was used to. We are editing the second lecture which is somewhat more complicated then the first. There is a graphic that I had to animate in the program as well as some highlighting of words. The Highlighting was something that I had to figure out through trial and error. So far I am very happy with the product.
Over the past week Marty and I have been using my old mac book pro, for editing, that is under powered and on its last leg. This made the editing process very slow and annoying. Last friday we ordered a new computer that will allow us to edit and process video at a higher level. the computer arrived at around 10 today. For the rest of the day Marty and I set up the computer and began to transferring the footage over to the new computer. As Marty was doing the basic setup of the new computer I did final touches on the final version of the first section. We are planning to do one more viewing of the video tomorrow once everything is setup one the new computer and then send it off to the video course company to get review and critique for the final changes and to insure high quality throughout our video course. I am so excited to use this new computer, it will enable me and Marty to increase the rate at which we edit and produce the film we need.
Today was a huge leaning day for me. Marty and I decided that the footage that we had used for the first section could be improved upon with the new Knowledge we had gained from shooting the other sections as well as some more testing that we done. We have changed the lighting and the position of the teleprompter to insure better video quality. After we had finished the upload of the new footage we could tell that this was really going to pay off. With the new position of the teleprompter it appeared that Marty was making eye contact with you instead of reading, this is important as this lecture is supposed to feel like a one on one coaching experience. Even though it was a tough to restart all my work it was exciting to see a more complete and finished product at the end of this process.
After this first week on LINK I can tell that my time here is going to fly by. I am going to do as much here as I can but, wow does the time go so fast. Marty and I have almost finished editing the first video that we took and hope to get it out on monday for critique by the video course company. I am learning so much every day and am amazed at the material that Marty is covering in his talk, it is amazing. Everything from what an entire company can do to succeed... or fail, to wait some of the individual roles have to do and who should fill them. Marty truly know so much about business and successful practices in today technology driven world. I just hope that I am helping him as much as I can. This was an amazing first week I cant wait for the what happens next week!
This morning I continued to edit the footage that we took yesterday. I then ran the final edits past Marty. Together we went through this and made a list of final revisions that had to be made before the section was actually done. After lunch I spent another hour working on these edits. We then started to film the second section of the talk. This time we had a few more difficulties, we had to do more takes and start over many times. We had issues with the teleprompter as well a some of the lighting. It was a good learning experience, it thought me to make sure that you do everything before so that you don't have to redo everything.
Today we recorded the first section of the talk. This section was around eight and a half minutes long. We took to takes of this. We then listened to each and decided to go with the second take because it seemed to have less mistakes. We then went over this version with a fine tooth comb. I then began to edit out the small mistakes and add text and photos to highlight Marty's words. This is what I did for the rest of the day as Marty worked on the script for tomorrow.
Today Marty and I began to run test videos. This allowed us to change the lighting and settings on the camcorder for optimum video and audio quality. We then used this test footage in the editing program to test the chromokey function. This is the function that allows us to replace the green with anything we like. It turns out that lighting the green screen in the correct fashion is super important for the program to work correctly. This is because there cannot be shadows or bright spots on the screen these well become blotches. After we figured this out we did some basic editing to start and get the hang of what we need to do to create the level of film we wanted to.
Today was my first day on LINK with Marty Cagan Founder of SVPG or Silicon Valley Product Group. We spent most of the day getting the equipment set up for the filming. This included the lights, green screen, microphone, teleprompter, editing software and camcorder. In preparation for this internship I spent time researching what camcorder and editing software would be best suited for our project. Today I learned so much from Marty, From how to create a lecture for premier executives at leading companies in a technology driven industry to the basics of filming an interesting yet informing video. I can't wait to begin on understanding the finer nuances of Marty's work.
